Understanding Thermal Equilibrium

This simulation demonstrates how two gas systems reach thermal equilibrium depending on the wall separating them:

  • Adiabatic Wall: An insulating wall that prevents heat flow between systems. Temperature remains constant in each system.
  • Diathermic Wall: A conducting wall that allows heat transfer. Systems eventually reach the same temperature (thermal equilibrium).

Adjust the sliders to change initial conditions and observe how the systems behave with different wall types.
