Lens and Liquid Refraction Experiment
Value: 45 cm
Value: 1.33
Value: 1.5
Experiment Explanation
This simulation demonstrates an equiconvex lens (μ₁ = 1.5) in contact with a liquid layer on top of a plane mirror. The needle is moved along the principal axis until its inverted image coincides with the needle position.
When liquid is present (f = 45cm):
1/f = 1/f₁ + 1/f₂
1/45 = 1/30 + 1/f₂ ⇒ f₂ = -90cm
For the liquid lens (R = 30cm):
1/f₂ = (μ₂ - 1)[1/R - 1/∞]
-1/90 = (μ₂ - 1)[1/-30] ⇒ μ₂ = 1.33
