Plutonium-239 Fission Energy Simulation

Plutonium-239 Fission Energy Simulation

This simulation demonstrates the enormous energy released from nuclear fission of Plutonium-239 (239Pu). The average energy released per fission is 180 MeV. Calculate the total energy released when varying amounts of 239Pu undergo complete fission.

Energy calculation:

E = (NA / Mass Number) × mass × Energy per fission

For 1 kg of 239Pu:

E = (6.023×1023 / 239) × 1000 × 180 MeV = 4.536×1026 MeV

Energy Output:

Total energy released: 4.536×1026 MeV

Equivalent in TNT: 21.6 megatons

Number of atoms fissioned: 2.52×1024
