Iron-56 Fission Simulation

Iron-56 Fission Simulation

Simulation of 56Fe fission into two 28Al nuclei with Q-value calculation

Q-value Calculation:

Fission reaction: 56Fe → 2 28Al

Given masses:

m(56Fe) = 55.93494 u

m(28Al) = 27.98191 u

Q = [m(56Fe) - 2 × m(28Al)] × c²

Q = [55.93494 - 2 × 27.98191] × c²

Q = -0.02888 u × c²

1 u = 931.5 MeV/c²

∴ Q = -0.02888 × 931.5 MeV = -26.90 MeV

The Q-value is negative, so this fission is not energetically possible.
