Young's Double-Slit Experiment

Interactive simulation demonstrating wave-particle duality and interference patterns

Theoretical Background

Young's double-slit experiment demonstrates the wave nature of light through interference patterns.

The position of bright fringes (constructive interference) is given by:

yₙ = nλD/d

Where:

  • yₙ = Distance from central maximum to nth bright fringe
  • n = Order of the fringe (0, ±1, ±2, ...)
  • λ = Wavelength of light
  • D = Distance from slits to screen
  • d = Separation between the two slits
