Physics Explanation
This simulation demonstrates the electric field between two large parallel conducting plates with equal but opposite surface charge densities.
The electric field in region II (between the plates) is uniform and calculated by:
E = |σ| / ε₀
Where:
- σ is the surface charge density (17.0 ×10⁻²² C/m²)
- ε₀ is the permittivity of free space (8.854 ×10⁻¹² C²/N·m²)
Current electric field strength between plates: 1.92 ×10⁻¹⁰ N/C
In regions I and III (outside the plates), the electric field is zero because the fields from the two plates cancel each other out (superposition principle).
The simulation assumes ideal infinite parallel plates where edge effects can be neglected, resulting in perfectly uniform fields between the plates.
