Gauss's Law Simulation
Visualize the relationship between electric flux through a closed surface and the net charge enclosed within it
0.07 μC
8.0 × 10³ Nm²/C
Gauss's Law
Φ = qenc / ε₀
Where:
- Φ = Electric flux through closed surface (Nm²/C)
- qenc = Net charge enclosed within the surface (C)
- ε₀ = Permittivity of free space (8.854 × 10⁻¹² N⁻¹C²m⁻²)
Key Concepts
- The net electric flux through any closed surface is proportional to the net charge enclosed
- Positive flux means net outward flux (positive net charge inside)
- Negative flux means net inward flux (negative net charge inside)
- Zero flux means either no charge or equal amounts of positive and negative charges
- The shape of the surface doesn't affect the total flux (for a given charge)
