Question:
A pure inductor of 25.0 mH is connected to a source of 220 V. Find the inductive reactance and rms current in the circuit if the frequency of the source is 50 Hz.
Solution:
The inductive reactance, \[ X_L = 2\pi \nu L = 2 \times 3.14 \times 50 \times 25 \times 10^{-3}~\Omega = 7.85~\Omega \] The rms current in the circuit is \[ I = \frac{V}{X_L} = \frac{220~\text{V}}{7.85~\Omega} = 28~\text{A} \]
Circuit Calculations
Inductive Reactance (XL): 7.85 Ω
RMS Current (I): 28.0 A
Phase Angle: 90° (Current lags Voltage)
Magnetic Field Strength: 0.28 T
Voltage and Current Waveforms
Voltage (V) = 220 sin(100πt)
Current (I) = 28.0 sin(100πt - π/2)
