Torricelli's Barometer Simulation
Comparing mercury and wine columns for atmospheric pressure measurement
Current: 101.3 kPa
Current: 984 kg/m³
This simulation demonstrates how Pascal duplicated Torricelli's mercury barometer using French wine. The height of the liquid column is inversely proportional to the liquid's density. For normal atmospheric pressure (101.3 kPa), mercury (13,600 kg/m³) forms a column of 0.76 m, while wine (984 kg/m³) forms a column of approximately 10.5 m.
