Sitar String Beat Frequency Simulation

Sitar String Beat Frequency Simulation

Explanation of Beat Frequency

When two sound waves of slightly different frequencies interfere, they produce a phenomenon called beats - a periodic variation in amplitude that results from the superposition of the two waves.

Beat Frequency Formula:

fbeat = |f1 - f2|

Problem Solution:

  1. Original beat frequency: 6 Hz → |324 Hz - fB| = 6 Hz
  2. Possible frequencies for B: 318 Hz or 330 Hz
  3. When tension in A is reduced, its frequency decreases (since f ∝ √T)
  4. The beat frequency reduces to 3 Hz, which only makes sense if fB = 318 Hz

Tension-Frequency Relationship:

f ∝ √T
